The valid business concept, comprising viable financial instruments and financing options, the specific legal framework and the proven experience in managing the State funds are positioning EximBank as a model to be replicated in order to develop the activity of export agencies in Central and Eastern Europe, said the bank in a statement.

EximBank hosted between July 29-30, 2105 a workshop with the attendance of a delegation representing the export agency of Serbia – AOFI (Agencija za osiguranje i finansiranje izvoza Republike Srbije a.d.) with an agenda focused on the transitioning process of EximBank from the export agency role to the specialized financial banking institution’ activity.

”AOFI representatives have fulfilled a documentary mission focused on the functioning of the specific EximBank mechanisms for supporting exports. An important element to be addressed was the adoption of the legal framework governing the activity of EximBank, after the Romania’s accession to European Union, a possible model for AOFI having in view the fact that Serbia is preparing to start the accession negotiations.

Preparation and negotiation of the accessing process involves significant efforts and this is why we have expressed our full availability in offering our assistance to AOFI. It is in our view an action that falls under the foreign policy coordinates of Romanian authorities, supporting the European perspective for Serbia and, at the same time, one of the constant concerns of EximBank to develop cooperation relationships with similar institutions in order to facilitate the access of Romanian companies on new markets all over the world.”, said Traian Halalai, Executive President of EximBank.

EximBank  is a specialized institution whose threefold product portfolio focused on financing, guarantee and insurance, enables it to grant assistance to current activities and development of exporters, SME-s and companies involved in projects pertaining to key economic sectors, particularly those contributing to the absorption of EU funds.

The procedures for establishing of Romanian Bank for Exports and Imports – EximBank SA as an agency for supporting exports have started in 1991, the actual EximBank becoming fully functional on April 8, 1992.
EximBank has expanded its scope of work along the years now being able to support through its financial instruments any type of company, either SME or big company, active internationally or only locally.

Thus, for almost 20 years EximBank has been actively involved in supporting and promoting the Romanian business environment, using the financial instruments in its portfolio to boost the local companies’ projects.
