Negritoiu, ING Bank: The National Bank of Romania should encourage the lending in RON

The National Bank of Romania should stimulate the lending in RON, in order to curb the foreign currency risk induced to the system by loans in foreign exchange, said the President of ING Bank, Misu Negritoiu.
Encouraging loans in Romanian currency could be achieved also by lowering the cash reserve ratio and by giving loans under the First Home programme only in RON.
“I think the Central Bank is much too tolerant. It should be more active, even aggressive, because things no longer are what they used to be before the crisis.
We have a RON market full of unused RON, because we do not have assets for this money. Instead of encouraging loans in foreign currency, let’s encourage those in RON,” the ING Bank president added.
