Banca Centrală a Germaniei (Deutsche Bundesbank) are începând de ieri un nou şef, în persoana lui Jens Weidmann. Deja de la începutul mandatului, acesta a anunţat că doreşte să continue politica înaintaşului său, Axel Weber, care a pus mai presus de toate stabilitatea monedei euro. Astfel, Weidmann a adresat un semnal cât se poate de pregnant Băncii Centrale Europene, care s-a făcut în trecut vinovată de o tratare laxă a valorii monedei comunitare, transmite Deutsche Welle.
Axel Weber i-a oferit urmaşului său la cârma Băncii Centrale a Germaniei, Jens Weidmann, simbolic, o busolă, pentru a se putea orienta în vremurile tulburi pe care le traversăm. În discursul de învestitură, Weidmann a subliniat că stabilitatea monedei euro are pentru el prioritate absolută.
De asemenea, el a insistat că banca emitentă trebuie să fie imună la presiuni politice. "Criza economică şi financiară cu fazele sale distincte a demonstrat cât de important este un sistem financiar stabil şi cât de important este un buget de stat solid pentru politica monetară."
Această declaraţie nu a fost adresată numai statelor cu deficit din zona euro. Weidmann a anunţat că intenţionează să examineze cu atenţie şi planul de austeritate al guvernului de la Berlin, fiindcă neaşteptata relansare a economiei germane trebuie folosită în vederea reducerii datoriei publice.
