National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a set of three coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac) and a silver coin dedicated to the anniversary of 150 years since King Ferdinand I’s birth (press release):
Pursuant to the provisions of Law No. 312/2004 on the Statute of the National Bank of Romania, as of 15 July 2015, the National Bank of Romania will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a set of three coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac) and a silver coin dedicated to the anniversary of 150 years since King Ferdinand I’s birth.
The coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac) in the set have the following technical characteristics:

Obverse of the gold coin: the image of the Coronation Cathedral in Alba Iulia, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “100 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2015”.
Obverse of the silver coin: the image of the Coronation Cathedral in Alba Iulia, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “10 LEI”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2015”.
Obverse of the copper-plated tombac coin: the image of the Coronation Cathedral in Alba Iulia, the inscription “ROMANIA” in an arc, the face value “1 LEU”, the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue “2015”.
Reverse (common to all coins made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac in the set): the portrait of king Ferdinand I, his birth and death years – “1865” and “1927” – and the inscriptions “FERDINAND I” and “REGE AL ROMANIEI” in an arc.
The technical characteristics and the description of the silver coin are similar to those of the silver coin which is part of the three-coin set.
The gold, silver and copper-plated tombac coins are individually housed in transparent plastic capsules.
The sets of coins and the silver coins are accompanied by leaflets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue in Romanian, English and French. Each leaflet comes with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.
The mintage of this numismatic issue is:
150 sets of coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac); and
250 silver coins.
The selling prices are as follows:
lei 1,950.00, VAT excluded, per set of three coins (made of gold, silver and copper-plated tombac), including the leaflet; and
lei 330.00, VAT excluded, for the silver coin, including the leaflet.
The gold, silver and copper-plated tombac coins dedicated to the anniversary of 150 years since King Ferdinand I’s birth are legal tender on the territory of Romania.
The sets of coins and the silver coins will be put into circulation through the branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iaşi and Timişoara.
