Customers who want to gather all their loans in one place or who want a loan in Lei instead of a foreign exchange one can now opt for the new debt consolidation offer from Citibank Romania. This newly launched product allows customers to borrow up to Lei 60.000, with no guarantor or advance payment needed, said the bank in a press release.rnrnThe main advantage of the loan in Lei offered by Citibank is that customers may eliminate the risk of the exchange rate fluctuations, so that they have the possibility to efficiently administrate the debt, choosing to refund in monthly equal installments. Moreover, the annual interest rate is fix, starting from 15,99%, and there is no monthly charge for the loan administration.rnThe process of getting this loan is simple since the required documentation is minimal and potential customers do not have to leave their office or home since Citibank will send its agents to meet them and put together the loan documentation. Further, the bank’s decision will be communicated to the applicant within 24 hours of receiving the completed application.rnrn“One of the key principles that guide the relationship we have with our clients at Citibank is responsible finance. This is the reason why we have always disbursed loans only in Lei and at a fixed interest rate. Through this new debt consolidation offer, we are offering customers who are feeling the burden of exchange rate and interest rate fluctuations, transparent and dependable lending terms and predictability in their reimbursement plan, which meet their financing needs”, Mihaela Nacu, Loans Head for Citibank Romania, declared.rn rnFurther information on the debt consolidation offer is available online at www.citibank.ro or through the CitiPhone service line 0800801040.

Neutral interest rate in Romania

The neutral nominal rate in Romania has been falling since the start of inflation targeting in 2005. The Taylor Rule clearly shows that interest rates peaked in 2022 and have been on a clear downward path ever since.Furthermore, the model estimates a long-term neutral nominal rate of around 3.9%, which is the equivalent of approx. 1.4% real.Using a more sophisticated model (i.e. New York FED’S HLW model), the real neutral interest rate in Romania is estimated currently at around 1.5% (1.7% 2023 average) and the historical mean at 1.2%.This implies a neutral nominal rate between 4.00% and 4.50%. In the past decade, the NBR real effective rate was below the neutral rate and only over the past year climbed above the neutral mark.Source: Erste Bank
