Millennium Bank credit cardholders can now benefit from the recently launched Installment Plan with Zero Interest Rate which brings new features on the Romanian market, said the bank in a press release. rnrnThe benefit allows clients, for the first time, to reimburse the amounts in equal monthly payments, without interest or any other fees, for purchases made at any merchant in Romania or abroad, for single or cumulated transactions. The number of monthly installments is also at their choice.rnrnClients can access this benefit at any of the 30 million merchants located in 200 countries that accept Visa payments, which is a premiere for a Romanian market issued credit card. The benefit is available for purchases with the credit card in amounts above RON 1,000. rnrnThe Installment Plan with Zero Interest Rate can be activated for a certain transaction worth the mentioned amount, but also for several smaller transactions, cumulated, performed over the previous month.rnrn“Millennium Bank customers intensively use their credit cards for purchases, 75% of the transactions being performed at merchants. In order to bring them added value, we launched, for the first time on the Romanian market, an Installment Plan with Zero Interest Rate with such flexibility. This benefit is not restricted to a certain network of merchants, the number of monthly installments is at the clients’ choice and they can also choose to reimburse cumulated transactions”, Eliza Erhan, Head of Retail Product Development with Millennium Bank, stated.rnrnThe number of monthly installments ranges from minimum four to maximum 12 payments. The first payment will be made within one month after the activation of the benefit. The Installment Plan with Zero Interest Rate can be activated twice a year by a single phone call to the bank’s Call Center.rnrnMillennium Bank’s cards portfolio also offers benefits such as Discount Programme, which provides up to 30% discounts for all debit and credit cardholders when paying for goods and services at the bank’s merchant partners.

Neutral interest rate in Romania

The neutral nominal rate in Romania has been falling since the start of inflation targeting in 2005. The Taylor Rule clearly shows that interest rates peaked in 2022 and have been on a clear downward path ever since.Furthermore, the model estimates a long-term neutral nominal rate of around 3.9%, which is the equivalent of approx. 1.4% real.Using a more sophisticated model (i.e. New York FED’S HLW model), the real neutral interest rate in Romania is estimated currently at around 1.5% (1.7% 2023 average) and the historical mean at 1.2%.This implies a neutral nominal rate between 4.00% and 4.50%. In the past decade, the NBR real effective rate was below the neutral rate and only over the past year climbed above the neutral mark.Source: Erste Bank
