Garanti Bank, one of the most dynamic and innovative banks on the local market, launches, for the first time in Romania, a special section integrated in its internet banking platform dedicated to donations for non-for-profit and non-governmental organizations, said the bank in a statement.

The new functionality, namely „Donations NGOs”, offers customers a new option, of instantly transferring any sum of money to various selected NGOs that support social, educational, and environmental causes.

“Donations NGOs” is currently available in Garanti Online – the internet banking platform, and will shortly be active in the whole network of over 300 BancoSmart ATMs, across the country. All donations are free of bank fees and the money are transfered directly into the NGOs’ accounts.

In this respect, Garanti Bank has joined hands with 10 NGOs of the country, thus launching the widest donations channel, as a premiere on the local market.
“Donations NGOs” provides Garanti Bank customers an initial list of associations and foundations from which they can choose one or more, at their preference, in order to make such donations.

The first partenered NGOs are: Daruieste Viata Association, Invingem Autismul Association, Ovidiuro Association, Scoala de Valori Association, Teach for Romania Association, WWF – Romania Association (World Wide Fund for Nature), Scheherezade Foundation, Hope and Homes for Children Romania Foundation, SOS Satele Copiilor Association and Viitor Plus – the association for sustainable development. The list of NGOs will be extended in the future in order to support more projects.

Garanti Online, the internet banking service of Garanti Bank, was launched in October 2007, initially for individuals, becoming available also for legal entities in May 2008. The service offers its users innovative features, allowing them to manage complex banking transactions in real time, anytime, anywhere.

Garanti Bank holds one of the largest smart ATM networks in the country that will continue to increase by the end of the year and thus reach a total of 340 BancoSmart units.

Neutral interest rate in Romania

The neutral nominal rate in Romania has been falling since the start of inflation targeting in 2005. The Taylor Rule clearly shows that interest rates peaked in 2022 and have been on a clear downward path ever since.Furthermore, the model estimates a long-term neutral nominal rate of around 3.9%, which is the equivalent of approx. 1.4% real.Using a more sophisticated model (i.e. New York FED’S HLW model), the real neutral interest rate in Romania is estimated currently at around 1.5% (1.7% 2023 average) and the historical mean at 1.2%.This implies a neutral nominal rate between 4.00% and 4.50%. In the past decade, the NBR real effective rate was below the neutral rate and only over the past year climbed above the neutral mark.Source: Erste Bank
