Millennium Bank customers benefit from safer card online transactions following the launch of 3D (3 Domain) Secure technology, said the bank in a press release.

3D Secure is the highest international standard for securing internet payments, implemented by Visa and MasterCard. The service is provided free of charge by Millennium Bank to its clients and ensures a higher security level by reducing the fraud risk. The technology consists of a personalised client authentication method for card online payments at merchants from Romania or abroad that are part of the 3D Secure project.

“E-commerce in Romania has been increasing significantly and our customers contribute to that. The number of online transactions with Millennium Bank cards rose by 60% in May 2010 compared to May 2009. Therefore, we focus on providing our cardholders the highest security level. Implementing the 3D service for Millennium Bank cards is the second step, after having implemented the chip technology, at the end of 2009, for all cards issued under Visa and MasterCard brands”, stated Eliza Erhan, Head of Retail Product Development at Millennium Bank.

All debit and credit, Visa and MasterCard cards issued by Millennium Bank – both for retail and corporate clients - are automatically enrolled in 3D Secure by the bank at the moment of their issuance. The clients only need to activate the service by assigning a username and a password that they will later make use of to authorise any online payment made on websites that are part of the project. The service activation is done online, the customers do not need to go to the bank or sign any additional contract.
